One of the most popular trends we have been witnessing in the world of accessories this year is the oversized glasses. Oversized glasses embody, in different ways, two of the popular styles that have become popular in 2011. One is the vintage, 50’s style which is complemented by oversized round frames, and the other is the geek chic style which goes well with oversized, square and thick-rimmed glasses.

The rounder frames have a great vintage feel, and come in a variety of colours. White frames are particularly chic, but bright colours like pink and blue will also work well this summer. Whether you are wearing proper prescription glasses bought from an opticians or just glasses with clear lenses because you like the style, you can easily find glasses like this as they are so popular at the moment. They are best worn as infrequent accessories to match a particular style – wearing oversized glasses all the time may get a little old!

Squarer frames, on the other hand, can be worn more frequently than round. Square, thick rimmed glasses have been popular for quite some time, not just this year, although 2011 saw an increase in their size. Both styles work well as sunglasses and regular glasses, although it seems that rounder vintage frames are more popular as shades and thick rimmed square frames are better for everyday use.
If you do wear prescription glasses, you may want to buy a separate pair of sunglasses for the summer. Buying prescription sunglasses can be expensive, and more often than not they don’t have some of the more popular styles available.
