We’ve all noticed one of the biggest trends in the fashion industry today, top-notch, name-brand designers and famous celebrities trying their hand at fashion are teaming up with brick and mortar, discount retail stores to create clothing and accessory lines that carry their trademark look and fashion feel but come with a much cheaper price tag.

The first really memorable collaboration between designer and discount retail was when Isaac Mizrahi teamed up with Target to bring a line of clothes, shoes and accessories to the price-conscious but still fashion savvy consumer. Clearly Isaac Mizrahi and Target’s collaboration was a success and has since sparked many similar designer/store collaborations.

Today Target works with more than 20 celebrities and designers to bring not just fashion lines to their consumers, but also home and kitchen products designed by their namesakes. Some of the more well known names that Target is working with today include Alexander McQueen, Zac Posen, Chrstiane Lemieux, Mossimo, Giada De Laurentiis, and Eugenia Kidd.

Other stores are also following in Target’s footsteps, Kohl’s carries budget friendly lines that were the product of collaborations with fashion stars such as Lauren Conrad and Vera Wang. Gap worked with Stella McCartney in recent history to bring some fun and fresh looks to their stores. Also, H&M has taken designer collaborations to a whole new level by working with such styling icons as Roberto Cavalli, Sonie Rykiel, Jimmy Choo, and many more.

When high fashion meets low prices everyone wins. The customers get amazing looks inspired by their fashion role models while higher end designers step out of couture and become household names.
